I found out that spring scallions just don’t happen from seed but by accident I also learned that you can plant onion seeds fairly deep in the late summer/early fall and then have a fantastic, incredibly early crop of scallions in late winter/early spring. Try it! It’s cheap, easy and amazingly satisfying.
For right now just buy sets and plant them in stages, every week or two, so you have them all summer. With these two methods you can have fresh scallions most of the year, which is really cool, especially with food prices now.
P.S. Scallion seeds are just onion seeds in case you weren’t quite sure.

Scallions are grown from sets, not seeds. Check at your local nursery or feed store for them.
Scallions, shallots, leeks, onions, and garlic are normally easier to grow from bulbs than from seed.
