what will happen if you planted a scallion and you sprinkled it with vinegar or soda?

.. it would be really helpful if you will answer my question because this is for our group’s investigatory project ..
Well, you’d be jacking up the Hydrogen levels in the soil – so the plant would probably die.
I guess it really depends on how much of either chemical you sprinkled on it.
You will be drying it out becuase vinger and soda is too acidic.
Indeed it would demand how much of each you’d use and where’d you sprinkle it. Vinegar would make the soil more acidic. Vinegar is also being used as an herbicide –weed killer. But the vinegar concentration used to kill weeds is higher than the vinegar you buy in the stores. Even still the store bought might cause some phytotoxic reaction……look up the word.
Vinegar on the soil might yield same result.
The soda might make the soil more alkaline if the salt content didn’t do the plant in first. How do salts affect cell water? That should be in your study……..hint, the word starts “hydrol…”
Also you’ll have to determine how much of either product causes a reaction. A little might not be a problem….
You’ll need to study a bit on salt in the soil, soil pH……and perhaps cation exchange capacity, but that might be a bit more advanced than you will want to go.
